ON
Line or OFF Line
book production?
Fastbind
allows you to make about 3 books per minute. The capacity
of a digital printer making 4-color prints on card is usually
about the same or less. The high speed printers can achieve
a speed of 3 pages per second. As a book most often has 60
or more pages, one Fastbind machine can bind more than the
capacity of a printer with highest speed. If you are making
books of eg. 180 pages, Fastbind is three times faster than
the printer.

book production and it's automazation |

When thinking
automatical perfect binding we have to understand that the
inner pages are collected and separated from the print process
to match to the cover. The cover has to be printed and the
correct book has to be verified and bound to the cover. If
the book has a title in the spine, it is of utmost importance
that it is positioned correctly vertically and horizontally

must be right

| Vocabulary
used in automatization |
In
Line
- Post
production and printing devices are originally designed
to work together
- The
pay off time of the investment and evaluating future production
amounts are important issues when calculating the profitability
of the investment
- Set
up is usually easy
On
Line
- Two
or mor machines connected to work in a robot like fashion
- Usually
more prone to malfunction than IN LINE
Off
Line
- The
machine is separate from the actual printing machine
- Requires
more human resources
- Is
flexible
|
| Investing
to automatization should be made with normal investment budget
planning. Very rarely automatization in book production meets
the demands of financial necessities, solving the malfunction
problems etc. |
